“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits (Proverbs 18:21).”
Do you know that wars can get started because of words? War also ends because of words. People live or die because of words spoken. God has blessed us with the ability to transform lives with our words.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits (Proverbs 18:21).” Our words can be weapons of mass destruction, or medicine that heals. It is therefore of vital importance that we choose our words wisely before we speak. Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart [the] mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). We must then be careful of the things that we store in our hearts, because our words reflect the sentiments of our thoughts.
A heart that stores bitterness will produce words of bitterness. A critical heart will only produce critical words, and a self-righteous heart will produce judgmental words. On the other hand, a loving heart will produce loving words. A peaceful heart will produce words of reconciliation, and a trusting heart will produce words of affirmation.
Words can make a marriage sweet, a friendship lasting, families strong, students successful, churches healthy and community safe. Words can give hope to the dying and offers salvation by sharing the gospel. Words can empower the weak to accomplish great things. Words, as simply as they may sound, can heal or hurt, help or hinder.
Consider the following question, “What will come out of your mouth today, death or life?” The answer could be the difference between life and death! What comes out depends on what goes in, so, what thoughts and words are you putting in your heart?
